Hello there, Eyelinehers!

Hello everybody! It's Carly just checking in to wave hi, in the hope you're all doing well and still finding these tips and tutorials helpful. I realize my last "proper" post was over a year ago, and wanted to reassure you that even though I haven't made a new video in a while, that's because I always wanted this site to be more of a handy resource for you all than a "my day to day thoughts" kinda blog. Rest assured I am still here to read every one of your lovely thoughtful comments!

Me, bumbling around NYC recently.

Also, here's some answers to few FAQs:

"Can I watch your videos on YouTube?"
Yes, please do: right here! (My YouTube name is Eyelineher Blog.) You can also subscribe there, too.

"Where did you buy the little dark hat you wear under your scarf in the videos?"
This is, without a doubt, the question I get asked most on this blog. (I actually make it clear in my blogs where my products come from, but I totally understand it's easy to miss something.) It's a Kimmy from the wonderful online retailer Suburban Turban. That's me modelling the cap on their site, but that's because their founder and all-round hat-wizard Nicky Zip became a dear friend after I met her through cancer care work. I don't get paid for plugging her products, promise -- I just really love them.

"There's a particular technique or problem I'm having. How can I get advice?"
Just comment right here on the site, on any post! I read every comment and reply wherever humanly possible.

"Have you discovered any good products or techniques in the past year?"
Not as many as you'd think. I am still totally wedded to my eyebrow techniques and products (any eyeshadow powder + Rimmel eyebrow pencil + BGDL Sealer.) The BGDL Sealer is still the most amazing I have tried, and I urge you all to order one from the kindly Thea at BGDL (they do online orders!) I will never be parted from my Suburban Turban hats, so take a look at their stuff and email Nicky with your questions. My only real discovery is the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, which I now use to recreate 100% waterproof eyebrows if I'm doing something really wet, like swimming or kayaking. If this sounds interesting to anybody, I'll do a new tutorial on it!

My best to you all! Carly xo

  2. Hi Carly!
I came across your videos today and cannot thank you enough for your wonderful tutorials! I've had alopecia since I was 18 months old and it only recently advanced to universalis and I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes. I was devastated since I only ever wore mascara and loved my makeup that way. However your videos inspired me to give it a shot and I finally felt beautiful again for the 1st time in 2 years! I will never again have sharpie marker eyebrows thanks to you! Again I can't thank you enough for your wonderful tutorials. They changed my life!
    Best wishes from Texas,
    Jes

    1. Jes, thank you so much for this lovely comment. I can't tell you how touched I was to read it. Having alopecia since such a young age, as you have, is a *lot* to deal with -- and then having universalis deciding to come along too? No picnic, so I'm thrilled my videos have been helpful to you. Say no to sharpie eyebrows! Love from San Francisco, Carly xo

  3. Hi Carly! I am so happy that you're doing well. I also recently discovered your videos a few days ago. I am 1/2 way through my chemotherapy and it's getting more difficult to be creative with what to do with my appearance. I watched your eyelash and head scarf videos and now I need to watch them all. Do you have an online source for silk scarves? (I actually have a ton of questions for you that include your eyeshadow and other makeup too, but I don't want to bombard you with questions). Thank you.

    1. Hey Elizabeth! Never feel reluctant to bombard me with Qs -- that's what I'm here for! Whether I have a good answer for every single one is another matter ;) So, I used to get my silk scarves from a UK store called Accessorize, but they stopped selling such a good selection. Now, I get my big silk scarves from the trusty Suburban Turban , because they're as big as I need, beautiful colours and they can be ordered online and delivered to most places. As for your other questions, feel free to fire away right here! xo

    2. Thanks, Carly! It's so nice of you to get back to me so quickly. Is there a video for your eye shadow and other makeup that you wear? I love the color. Is it a warm brown? Cranberry? I did my liquid eyeliner for the first time this morning without having complete mishaps. Thank you, I feel so pretty today! Do you participate in sports or workouts? If you do, what do you wear on your head then? Thanks!

    3. Hey Elizabeth! So, if you explore the blog a bit using the tags on the left-hand side, you'll see several tutorials on eye makeup: like these ones here! I actually focus on my liner in those videos/photos (smoky black, to mimic the look of lashes) but I do like wearing eyeshadow too. This Coastal Scents Revealed palette is a real bargain and has a gorgeous range of cool and warm neutrals to get you started. As for sports and workouts, I do visit the gym about once every ten years but I also love hiking: when I'm doing something like that, I wear a Buff. Take a look at my video tutorial on Buffs! xo PS. Congrats on mastering liquid liner! It's not easy initially but once you've got it, you've got it for life!

    4. Hi Carly? What colors and styles of hats do you wear in your videos? Also what style and colr is your little black cap under scarves? Thanks and take good care!

    5. Sorry I was going to order from suburbanturban but cannot seem to distinguish the colors on like your "recreating eyebrows with makeup" video. Thank you and is there a "trick" to ordering the sizes/ Thanks! Love you!

    6. Hey there! So, the little black cap I wear under my scarves in videos is a Kimmy from Suburban Turban. The hat I'm wearing in the Recreating Eyebrows with Makeup video is a Bea from Suburban Turban in the swatch "Bea Beautiful" (the first one on that page.) As for sizing, there's a guide to that on Suburban Turban's site right here. Hope this helps! xo

  4. Love the hat! So fun and light, almost like a hair style. Could you point me in the direction of purchasing one? Also, thank you for the tutorials on YouTube. You are saving so much trouble for all sorts of people. Well done!

  5. Thank you Carly, the videos are great! I have dealt with no eyebrows & eyelashes since jr high, and I am now 31. I stopped wearing lashes feeling like I was fake. But you have inspired me to try again. You look very natural! Love the tips! Thanks again! ~ Christina
