Recreating eyebrows with make-up: another video

Here's another video demonstrating exactly how to restore lost eyebrows with the aid of eyeshadow and pencil. (As comprehensive as my first video on this topic was, the recording quality could definitely have been improved - so, it has!)

If this is your first watch you might find my photo tutorial on recreating eyebrows a useful companion, too. Happy feathering and pencilling, amigos!

  1. Hi Carly,

I came across this video on YouTube, when searching on 'fake eyebrows'. It's wonderful! Ok, so you've been doing them a long time and make it look so easy, but for the first time in years I'm actually tempted to have a go at drawing my lost eyebrows back on in the knowledge that they might just look good! Tomorrow morning I'm off to Boots to buy some new eye makeup and eyebrow pencil. And then I'm going to practice, practice, practice! I'm determined to sport some natural looking brows for my niece's wedding next week.

Thanks for the tutorials and inspiration!

  2. Hey Sue - so happy this vid has been helpful to you! I live in the US now, and I miss Boots SO much - they just do everything a girl needs for getting her eyebrows back on :) (You've probably already seen, but I've also got a step-by-step tutorial here that recommends certain products, almost all of them from the mighty Boots the Chemist.)

It might sound a little strange, but when I noticed I was losing my eyebrows I actually practised drawing a fake eyebrow every night on my leg or arm, just while sitting in front of the TV - it really helped for getting the shape and 'feathering' right (you get some odd looks if you forget to wash them off, mind). All the best for your niece's wedding - I recommend brushing a bit of translucent powder over the top of your new brows to reduce any shine in photos. If you need any further advice or tips, please don't hesitate to get in contact - I may be 8 hours behind, but I always try to reply pretty fast :)

    All the best, Carly x

  5. I'm sooo excited to have found your site and your youtube videos. I have Trich and have pulled my eyelashes and eyebrows out for the last 27 yrs. I am just now wanting to wear fake eyelashes, but found them difficult to put on not having eyelashes of my own. Your videos are just what I was hoping to find. You do an AMAZING job on your make-up and have inspired me to take a different approach in drawing on my brows now. Thank you for sharing!

  6. Hi there - so great you like the site! Fake eyelashes are the best; I was thrilled when I finally worked out how to apply them properly. Thank you for commenting! X

  7. Carly, you do a brilliant job with make-up - your eyes and brows look great.

Did you ever consider having your brows tattooed on? I lost mine about 6 years ago - I tried make-up but was always smudging them when I got hot or went swimming and often ended up looking lopsided! So decided go to Sophie Thorpe www.sophiethorpe.co.uk who specialises in eyebrows. She's fantastic and produces a very realistic effect.

It's expensive, but worth the investment for me as I never have to think about my brows at all and no-one notices that they aren't natural unless I tell them.

  8. Hi Carly, Germany is also watching you... :-) This is great and most helpful for my chemo which starts the day after tomorrow. I am so lucky, that my English is fluent, there are loads of helpful sites like yours in English, but nothing in German. However, I just pass on your videos, and even without understanding your comments, they are still v. instructive. Best, Susanne, Berlin.

  9. Hi Carly-

I just wanted to say thank you for keeping these tutorials up. I'm currently going through chemo and found them immensely helpful! I also live in the bay area - Pacifica- and was wondering if you live in the city?

  10. Carly,
Your tips and tricks seriously have made me beam with joy! I now have full confidence in losing my facial hair knowing they are going to be lost within the next few chemo treatments. I do wish to know though what is that you have on your head in this video and where in the world can I get one?! I would love to hear from you! Thanks again for brightening my day!

  11. Hi Samae, I'm so glad this has helped you. The hat I'm wearing is by a UK online company called Suburban Turban (I've actually reviewed them elsewhere on this site), and the style is called 'Bea'. They deliver outside the UK and are incredibly helpful with any questions you have. Good luck! x

Thank you so much! I will order one right away! I was also wondering in your plain black cap you wear under your scarves. Is there a certain place you like to get those? I just cant seem to find one that doesnt look like I'm going out to play in the snow. Thank you so much! (:
    Samae!

  14. Carly - You are absolutely adorable! Your videos on eyelashes and eyebrows will be a huge help to me during the 2nd phase of chemotherapy and then radiation.

    Love your sassy-ness!

  15. My sister will be happy for your eyebrow tutorial, as she often makes comments about my 'line' eyebrows. I'm wondering what you think about using false eyelashes for someone who is 63. My eyes are my best feature on my face, and yet I'm wondering if I will look like I'm trying to hard if I wear false eyelashes. This is my second bout through chemo, and this time I've got a full-time job as the ESL Director and faculty member at our local university... so it's important to me that I look professional.

I cannot tell you how wonderful your videos are - and how lovely you look. Your work here is very motivational.

    1. Hi there! I think if you keep them nice and subtle (ie. non-spidery) false eyelashes would work brilliantly :) I do usually advise ladies going through chemo that the fiddlyness of applying false eyelashes might not be worth the hassle, since your own will be returning very soon, but that said it certainly can't hurt giving them a "test drive", especially if you feel like they would really boost your professional confidence! I felt like a million dollars that first morning I walked into work with false eyelashes, so who am I to counsel against it? The very best of luck! xo

  16. Well, I've been drawing my eyebrows on for over 34 years and never knew about the lacquer!! It's always a bit frustrating to lose 1/2 an eyebrow while you are in the grocery store!! :D

And I never knew about eyebrow powders, I just use pencils. But it never fails, I find a pencil I love and it gets discontinued. I wear red hair now (used to be a dirty blonde before it all feel out and have been wearing red for 32 years) so I usually use light brown pencils with the feathering technique you show. I am going to look for the powders at Sally's Beauty supply.

Now, I'm off to watch your videos on eyelashes. I haven't worn false eyelashes since I got married almost 30 years ago, but I would love to try again.

You are absolutely beautiful by the way!! Thanks for the videos.

    Kate

    1. Hey Jessica! In my videos I tend to recommend Rimmel London makeup, but with eyebrow powder I actually think you can use ANY brown or black eyeshadow. It's all about the sharp eyebrow pencil you use over it (and for me that has to be Rimmel London's eyebrow pencil.) Hope this helps! xo

  18. Hi, what a beautiful job you do. The first video I saw of yours was for eyelashes, and I thought your eyebrows were real.
I start chemo next week and was told to expect hair to begin falling out around 10 days after.
My question for you is where did you find your very cute brown cap from your eyebrow video?
Thank you very much, looking forward to viewing your other videos!

    1. Hey Erin! My caps and hats are almost always from a great online store called Suburban Turban -- the little brown one in the video is called the "Kimmy"!

"Kimmy". I think you'll love it! Let me know if you have any other Qs. Wishing you all the best for your treatment x

  19. Love, love, love your site! I came across it last night (when looking for advice on false eyelash application) and am so excited to wake up this morning and try out some of your ideas! You are stunning and positive. I too have AU (lost it all a few months ago) and have decided to go wig less most of the time and just embrace it.
Oh btw, can I get the bald girls go lunch brow sealer in the Uk?
I'm always losing all or part of an eyebrow during the day. Lol.

    1. Hi Dee, so glad you're finding the site helpful! I'm excited for you to try out the false lashes -- they were a game-changer for me, having abandoned the idea of getting them to work for years! Once you've got it, you've got it :) They're especially confidence-boosting if you've decided to "bare all"! And as for the BGDL sealer, I bet they'd deliver to the UK (might just take a little longer to arrive...) Drop them a line and explain your situation, and I bet they'll help you out! The lady who runs BGDL, Thea, is really nice xo
